- Married Anne Hathaway
- Performed at the Globe Theater, which was burned down during the reign of Henry VIII
- Wrote down plays, had his actors memorize them, and then burned the copies so they couldn't be stolen
- Plays were collected and published by his actors

- The first 126 are addressed to a male
- 127-152 are addressed to a "dark lady"
