Peer Review Writing Workshop
The idea for peer review speed dating is to have your paper looked at by a number of your colleagues in class for a number of different things. We will move quickly around the room, spending five minutes at each station. After the first full round is done, other students will continue around the room until class is over.
When you complete all five stations, you will come to my station for me to evaluate your entire paper. Feel free to have the student assigned to the station you are at focus on something specific (an example of this: for "body of essay," you might have them focus on paragraph structure). After you complete my station, you will release someone from their station so they can go around.
We will rotate, as a matter of fairness, who is assigned to begin at stations for each paper.
Obviously, we should have more than 11 students [(Six at six stations (Including Professor Wend)] to begin, so for the first few rounds I will look at remaining student drafts so they don't need to come to me later. Some students may need to "buddy up" with another as well. Honestly, we normally figure it out as we go. Significantly little pity will be felt for students who are late, truant, or forget to print their drafts. Also, please make sure you bring a writing utensil.
There are five stations...
- Grammar
- Introductions/Conclusions/Transitions
- Body of Essay
- In-Text Citations + Secondary Sources
- Formatting
I will assign a student to each of these to begin the workshop. As I said above, I will rotate this for each workshop as the semester goes on.
The original inspiration for this came from, at least in part, Ryan Cordell's Post on Prof Hacker
