Play Paper Fall 2014

The Play Paper

For your play paper assignment you will submit a typed, titled, page numbered, double-spaced essay answering a student created and answered hypothesis by the due date. If you are having trouble with your topic, please see me after class or send me an email. Please include a works cited page including all sources, both primary and secondary, you cite from in MLA format. There is no need to include a cover page.

For this paper, you will continue from the end of your short story paper. You may, or may not, take out your conclusion, but you must add a transitional paragraph to segway into the play aspect of your paper. Also, of course, the short story aspect of the paper should show significant revision from the original submission. Significant points will be deducted for not following this.

If you feel comfortable continuing with the theme you engaged with for the short story paper, please do! If you would like to shift, use your transitional paragraph to do so. We can talk about this in class or during our workshop if you are unsure how to do this.

The plays we have read so far include...

  • Death of a Salesman
  • Hedda Gabler
  • A Doll's House

The paper will have an introductory paragraph with a thesis, body of essay, and conclusion. This should be 1,000-1,250 words new words NOT including the works cited. This should bring the total of your paper up to 2,000-2,500 words. Your paper will be written according to MLA 7 documentation. Please include your works cited page in the same document, partitioned from the conclusion of your paper with a page break.

For this paper, I am requiring at least two secondary sources (in addition to ones previously used for the short story paper). One of these sources need to be directly related to the play or plays you are close reading. All papers must have at least three quotes from the primary source and at least two from secondary sources (in addition to ones previously used for the short story paper). Your discussions of these quotes must exceed the quote in length.

The final draft of this paper will be due at 11:59pm on Sunday November 16th to my email (wwend@bcc.edu). Please begin a new email when sending your document.

Please title your final draft file: f14_eng102102_yourlastnamelowercase_paper3
